CD Produced by Prof. Gabriel Crouch Nominated for BBC Music Award
January 3, 2008
January 3, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - The Road to Paradise, a compact disc which was produced by Gabriel Crouch, director of choral ensembles at DePauw University, is among the BBC Music Award nominees. Released in 2007 on the Deutsche Grammophon label, the disc is one of three nominees in the "Choral" category. Visitors to BBC Music magazine's Web site can vote for the winner.
The nominees are selected from all discs which were given a five-star review rating in the January to December 2007 issues of BBC Music. Then, a jury listens to each of the five-star discs, and a list of 18 total nominations is drawn up.
Of The Road to Paradise, the jury wrote, "[Conductor Paul] McCreesh's exquisite programme follows the soul's journey from life through death into Paradise, finding resonances of ancient plainchant in later choral settings. Deeply-felt memorials to J.F. Kennedy (Howells) and Linda McCartney (Rodney Bennett) contrast with luminous performances of Tallis, Byrd and Britten. And the quality of singing is mesmerising."
