Oglethorpe Snaps Tigers' Home Streak with Two-Point Win

January 6, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - Visiting Oglethorpe shot 50.9 percent from the floor and held the Tigers to just 41.1 percent as the Stormy Petrels put an end to DePauw's 20-game home win streak with a 69-67 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win.

The Tigers dropped to 9-3 overall and 1-2 in the SCAC, while Oglethorpe improved to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

DePauw trailed by eight at 69-61 with 2:29 left after Nick Watterson knocked down a pair of free throws, but Brian Oilar's three-pointer with 2:09 remaining and Mike Moore's three with 1:03 left cut the margin to 69-67.

Oglethorpe ran the shot clock down before Joe Kennedy missed a three-pointer, but Alex Richey snagged the offensive rebound. Following an Oglethorpe timeout, DePauw fouled Eric Palmer and sent him to the line with six seconds remaining and he missed the front end of a one-and-one. Oilar grabbed the rebound, but the Tigers were unable to get off a shot at the horn sounded.

The teams battled through a tight first half that included six ties and eight lead changes. DePauw scored the final four points of the half to close the halftime deficit to 38-37.

The Stormy Petrels built as much as a nine-point lead at 56-47 on Palmer's three-pointer with 12:49 left, but the Tigers battled back to within one at 60-59 and again at 62-61 with 7:33 left. DePauw was scoreless for the next 5:24, while Oglethorpe went on a 7-0 run.

Moore led the Tigers with 19, while Oilar added 15 and Stephen Schott grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Kennedy led Oglethorpe with 14 followed by Ahmad Kareem Shaheed with 12 and a game-high nine rebounds and Craig Jackson with 10 points. The Stormy Petrels held a 37-25 edge on the boards.

DePauw travels to Rhodes for an 8 p.m. CST contest on Friday, January 11, while Oglethorpe travels to Sewanee on Saturday, January 12.
