Tigers Sweep Saturday Games

March 1, 2008, Danville, Ky. - Eighth-ranked DePauw improved to 4-1 on the season as the Tigers defeated Case Western Reserve by a 9-1 score and Maryville (Mo.) 3-1 in eight innings.
Tied, 1-1, the Tigers scored two each in the fourth and fifth innings and added four in the sixth for the win. DePauw pounded out 15 hits with Chelsy Patterson collecting three and Rachel Gill, Kelly Schwerzler, Ashlee Anton and Emman Minx each adding two.
Megan Soultz picked up her third win in four decisions by allowing just three hits, while striking out nine and not allowing any walks. Ruth Sagartz suffered the loss for the Spartans.
Maryville's Evelyn Drummond led off the game with a homer, but that would be the Saints' lone run in the extra-inning loss to the Tigers. DePauw tied the game in the top of the seventh as Gill led off by being intentionally walked. She moved to second on Schwerzler's sacrifice bunt and to third on Anton's groundout before scoring on Lauren Rees' single.
In the top of the eighth, Elyse Petruzzi was placed on second as part of the tiebreaker rule. She advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Minx's single. Minx later scored on Patterson's single.
Soultz struck out eight and didn't allow a walk in eight innings in improving to 4-1. Erin Clark suffered the loss for Maryville despite allowing just three hits.Back
