Fifth-ranked Tigers Move to 17-1 with Two More Wins

March 25, 2008, Fort Myers, Fla. - Fifth-ranked DePauw improved to 17-1 and extended its win streak to 17 with a pair of shutout wins at the Gene Cusic Classic over Fredonia State and Wisconsin-Whitewater by scores of 1-0 and 2-0, respectively. The Tigers also extended their streak of consecutive shutout innings to 51 1/3.
In the Fredonia State win, Megan Soultz allowed just a one-out single in the first before retiring the final 20 batters in improving to 16-1. She struck out nine in the victory.
DePauw's lone run came in the first as Chelsy Patterson led off with a single, moved to second on Brianne Weeks' sacrifice bunt and to third on Kaitlyn Davitt's infield single. After Davitt stole second and Rachel Gill walked, Ashlee Anton delivered a run-scoring single.
Patteson and Emma Minx each had two of DePauw's seven hits, while Kristy Sheridan had Fredonia State's lone hit.
Soultz tossed a five-hit shutout against Wisconsin-Whitewater and struck out seven while allowing one walk.
The Tigers scored one in the third when Katilyn Davitt singled home Chelsy Patterson and added another in the fourth on Patterson's double which plated Minx.
Davitt and Gill each had two of DePauw's five hits, while Suzanne Fersich had two of the Warhawks' five.
DePauw takes on Oberlin on Wednesday.Back
