New Pipe Organ Links University of North Texas with DePauw

March 31, 2008

March 31, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - A Dallas Morning News article on the installation of a $1.5 million Hellmuth Wolff pipe organ at the University of North Texas notes, "The UNT organ is the first in the area for Mr. Wolff, who learned his trade in his native Switzerland, Austria, Canada and the U.S. before setting up his own firm, Hellmuth Wolff & Associés, north of Montreal. In four decades, the firm has produced acclaimed organs for the University of Kansas; McGill University in Montreal and the University of Toronto in Canada; DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana; and numerous churches and cathedrals."

The new organ will be debuted in a recital tonight featuring UNT organ professor Jesse Eschbach.

Access the story at the newspaper's Web site.

A generous gift by the family of J. Stanford Smith, a 1936 DePauw University graduate, made possible the concert organ which is installed in the Green Center for the Performing Arts' Kresge Auditorium.  The organ was dedicated on  April 24, 2003.  Learn more by clicking here.
