A 1986 graduate of DePauw University, Elmore is the recipient of an ExCEL award for "excellence in the classroom and educational leadership," reports Kentucky's Louisville Courier-Journal.

Elmore adds, "I believe that every student can successfully participate in orchestra. Not every student can play a Mozart concerto, but everyone can contribute in a meaningful way to the art we create." A music education major at DePauw, he has taught in the New Albany-Floyd County schools for 22 years.

One of Elmore's students, Sara Keller, wrote to the award committee, "Mr. Elmore is a dedicated teacher, a skilled conductor and a hard working individual. I was very blessed to have him for a teacher and I know he has also been a blessing to hundreds of other students."
