November 18, 2006
November 18, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Susan (Mann) Furgeson, a 1987 graduate of DePauw University, will become the new executive director of the Blue River Community Foundation effective December 11, reports Indiana's Shelbyville News. A Shelbyville attorney, Furgeson will replace the retiring Elaine Haehl, who has led the foundation since 1995.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work for an organization that contributes so much to our community," Furgeson tells the newspaper. "I am looking forward to working with the board to build on the foundation's outstanding record of success."
The article states, "Furgeson, wife of Shelbyville Mayor Scott Furgeson, is a graduate of DePauw University and holds a law degree from George Washington University. Furgeson, 41, is an associate attorney with McNeely, Stephenson, Thopy and Harrold and has served as chairman of the board of directors for the Shelby County Youth Shelter."
"Her experience in volunteering as a board member, her knowledge and familiarity with the local area and her education pushed her to the top of the list of over 80 candidates," says foundation board president Todd Plymate. "The foundation search committee conducted a rigorous nationwide search and interviewed several outstanding candidates before deciding that Susan offered everything we could ask for in an executive director."
"The Blue River Community Foundation administers an endowment in excess of $13 million and has awarded nearly $500,000 in grants to benefit Shelby County so far in 2006," adds the item.
