Top-ranked Tigers Advance in SCAC Winner's Bracket

April 25, 2008, Danville, Ky. - Top-ranked DePauw extended its win streak to 34 and advanced in the winner's bracket of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament following a 14-6 win over Austin. The Tigers improved to 34-1 with the win, while Austin dropped to the loser's bracket and to 16-22 on the season. DePauw faces Millsaps at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Austin took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Sam Smith's solo homer, but the Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the inning after Kaitlyn Davitt's single scored Chelsy Patterson and Ashlee Anton doubled home Davitt.
In the second, Patterson and Brianne Weeks delivered run-scoring singles and Rachel Gill drove in Weeks with a double to make it 5-1. The Tigers blew the game open in the third when they plated eight runs on eight hits.
DePauw pounded out 17 hits in the victory as Patterson finished with three and Weeks, Gill, Carolyn Bartlett, Kelly Schwerzler, Lauren Rees and Emma Minx each added two. Gill and Minx each drove in three in the win. Smith and Whitney Bodine collected two of the Kangaroos' six hits.
Megan Soultz improved to 30-1 after allowing just two hits in 4 1/3 innings. Kali Gossett dropped to 0-1 with the loss.
