Tigers Advance in NCAA Winner's Bracket with 1-0 Win

May 8, 2008, Rock Island, Ill. - Chelsy Patterson's bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 13th scored Kelly Schwerzler with the game's only run as DePauw topped Maryville (Mo.) by a 1-0 count in the NCAA Division III first round.
DePauw advanced to Friday's 2 p.m. game against Washington-St. Louis which topped Tri-State, 1-0, today. With the win in the longest game in school history, the Tigers established a school record with their 38th win against just two losses. Maryville dropped to 27-16 with the loss.
Kelly Schwerzler singled to left with one out in the 13th before Lauren Rees, Emma Minx and Patterson each drew walks to end the game.
DePauw's first hit off of Erin Clark didn't come until the eighth. After Schwerzler reached on an error, Rees singled. Minx loaded the bases after reaching on another infield error, but Patterson grounded out to end the inning.
Maryville loaded the bases in the fourth on singles by Kristen Bray and Katie Brockmeyer before Clark was hit by a pitch. Bray was thrown out at the plate after Hall hit into a fielder's choice to Schwerzler at third. Amanda Buffa the flied out to center and Laura Weissmueller fouled out to third.
In the eighth, Bray led off with a single, Brockmeier walked and Clark reached when her bunt wasn't fielded cleanly. Megan Soultz then stuck out the next three hitters to end the inning.
Soultz improved to 34-2 with the shutout as she struck out 11 and walked just one. With her 53rd career win, she broke the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference record. Clark dropped to 14-8 after allowing just three hits.
Kristen Bray had three of the Saints' seven hits, while Evelyh Drummond added two. Carolyn Bartlett, Schwerzler and Rees each had one hit.
