Love of Art Shared by Elizabeth Davis '68 and Daughter Spotlighted

May 11, 2008

Lisa Heichelbech Elizabeth Davis(2).jpgMay 11, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - A Mother's Day feature on artists Elizabeth (McCleary) Davis, a 1968 graduate of DePauw University, and her daughter, Lisa Heichelbech, appears in today's edition of Kentucky's Henderson Gleaner. Each week in Heichelbech's Evansville home, "parent and adult child create amazing pieces from hunks of clay, and glaze them in colors that rival Mother Nature's best," writes Judy Jenkins.

The article notes that Davis and her husband, David Gehlhausen, raise horses. "Elizabeth's love for the graceful creatures often is expressed in her paintings on canvas, where she manages to convey movement with her skilled brush strokes, texture and unlimited imagination. The DePauw art major graduate paints other subjects too, and defies being categorized in a particular genre ... Elizabeth currently has one of her horse paintings on display in Audubon Museum's 'Beauty of Audubon' exhibit and three additional pieces on exhibit at Newburgh's Old Stone Gallery."
