Prof. Orcenith Smith Conducting at IU-Southeast String Clinic
June 19, 2008
June 19, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - Orcenith Smith, professor in the DePauw University School of Music, will serve as guest conductor at the Indiana University-Southeast String Clinic. The event is taking place through Saturday in New Albany.
Participating students are in grades 7-12 and are auditioned from the Louisville and southern Indiana area. The clinic is the culmination of a week-long camp.
"I am honored to be brought in to conduct the final few days and concert of these students," says Smith. "Their teachers have shown tremendous initiative to start this kind of camp, follow through by recruiting the students from the area, and keep the clinic going, providing momentum for these young musicians through the summer. With an intensive all day focus, these students can accelerate their learning faster than might otherwise be expected."
Last week, Professor Smith conducted another string camp, "Strings and Jazzy Things," in Indianapolis. Learn more in this story.
