As the SCAC winner, Doogan will also be nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year award, which award recognizes senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

Liz Bondi, a 2007 graduate of DePauw who starred in basketball and tennis, was last year's conference honoree.

"Doogan starred both in and out of the swimming pool for DePauw," notes the SCAC's announcement. "She completed her four-year athletic career by being named the SCAC Swimmer of the Year for the second katie_doogan_headshot_200.gifstraight year after leading the 15th-ranked Tigers with three individual wins at the 2008 conference championship meet. It was the third time Doogan had been named the SCAC Swimmer of the Year -- she also earned the honor as a freshman in 2005. Overall, Doogan won 10 individual events at the conference championship meet during her career -- tied for the second most in league history."

The announcement points out that Doogan, an English writing major and Media Fellow, is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and worked on campus media outlets D3TV, WGRE and was managing editor of A Midwestern Review. She now works in DePauw's development office.
