Johanna Fickenscher 2a.jpgJuly 14, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - "The key move for Johanna Fickenscher at Saturday's Portsmouth Harbour Trail 5K? Jumping over a rose hedge, of course," begins a story in New Hampshire's Portsmouth Herald. "The 23-year-old from Durham won the women's title in 18 minutes, 29 seconds."

Ken Stejbach writes, "Fickenscher, a former standout runner at Indiana's DePauw University, said she and a group of 15 to 20 runners found out they went the wrong way just after the two-mile mark, turned around and got back on course. 'I jumped over a rose hedge,' to get back on track, she said. Jumping over the hedge came naturally, added Fickenscher, noting she was a steeplechase runner back in college ... Fickenscher's win was her second of the season, following the PTO 'Get Fit in May' 5K in Exeter. A week ago she finished third at the Four on the Fourth race in York."
