November 7, 2008
November 7, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - "The Putnam County Hospice endowment, founded by Mary Louise Miller, was the resource" for a $25,000 grant to the Putnam County Hospital Cancer Center, reports the Banner-Graphic of Greencastle. "The hospice fund's intent is to sustain county programs that serve the terminally ill and their families," notes the article, which adds, "Miller taught at DePauw University for 32 years."
Mary Lou Miller, professor emeritus of physical education at DePauw, joined the University's faculty in 1942 and retired in 1974. "Miller passed away in January of 2007, but her memory and legacy continue through her charitable gift" to the Putnam County Community Foundation, which administered the grant to the Cancer Center. Professor Miller was a longtime supporter and board member of the Foundation.
