Prize of DePauw-Wabash Rivalry Cited in Star Story
November 15, 2008
November 15, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - "College rivalries can often lead to pranks, such as the frequent disappearance of the Monon Bell," notes the Indianapolis Star. Today's edition of the newspaper reports that the recent disappearance of Butler University's bulldog mascot costumes has been solved by police, with 4 suspects arrested and the suits damaged beyond repair.
Kevin O'Neal writes that "unlike the heavy metal bell that serves as the trophy for the winner of the Wabash-DePauw football game -- an icon that is all but impossible to damage -- the foam-and-cloth bulldog costumes were more vulnerable."

The Monon Bell will be on the DePauw sidelines this afternoon when the 115th Monon Bell Classic kicks off at 1:07 p.m. A crowd of nearly 12,000 is expected at Hollett Little Giant Stadium, and a national television audience will view the historic rivalry on HDNet.
