December 19, 2008
December 19, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. — "I'm very excited to play for the Vermont Frost Heaves," says 2002 DePauw University graduate Joe Nixon, who will play shooting guard for the Premier Basketball League team in the upcoming season. "I have heard great things about the organization's level of professionalism, coaching staff and fan base. In addition, after growing up and attending college in the Midwest and playing the last six years professionally overseas, I am looking forward to living in another part of the country for a few months and seeing what life is like in Vermont."
Nixon is profiled in the Barre Montpelier Times Argus, which notes "The Valparaiso, Ind., native is fourth on DePauw's all-time leading scorers list with 1.546 points, eighth in points per game with 15.6, sixth for field goals made with 555," is now fourth all-time for 3-pointers made with 184, "eighth for 3-point field goal percentage at 42 percent and is third in free throw percentage at 83.2 percent. He was also named an NCAA Division III Second Team Academic All-American in 2002."
Since graduating from DePauw, Nixon has played professionally in Europe and, most recently, Australia, where he averaged 29.7 points per game and shot 48% from behind the arc with the Eastern Suns.
