Hogg_Peter_mcc2004.JPGDecember 31, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. — "It was just a run through the backyard for Peter Hogg," a 2005 graduate of DePauw University, who won Saturday's 50K Ultra Frigid Fifty in Huntington, Indiana. "OK, so it was a long run -- and it was incredibly muddy -- but it was nevertheless a run in the backyard for the 26-year-old med school student," reports the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel.

Hogg won the event "in convincing fashion," reports Brett Hess. "He covered the muddy course in 4 hours, 7 minutes and 49 seconds. Patrik Berger, of Schiller Park, Ill., was second in 4:31:29 ... As usual, the race attracted runners from all over North America. There were runners from 23 states and provinces competing at the Huntington Reservoir in the 32-mile event."

Hess writes that Hogg "often trained on the HUFF course while at Norwell High School in Ossian. He continued the training runs while home on break from college, where he ran for DePauw University. He said the familiarity of the course helped him.

"It was easy for me to gauge my efforts," Hogg tells the newspaper. "I East College Night July 2008.JPGtook it easy on some parts and then really tried to push it on others."

The article points out that "Hogg is in his fourth year of med school at Indiana University and is sorting out his residency options. He plans to enter the orthopedic field, performing surgery ultimately."

"I like working with my hands," he says. "I like to see the results of my work. And (orthopedics) is certainly something I believe in. I will be able to help people get back to active living."
