DePauw Wins Sixth Straight in Victory over Centre

January 4, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw extended its win streak to six and improved to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following a 65-48 win over visiting Centre. The Colonels dropped to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
The win was DePauw's 31st straight at home, its 48th consecutive regular season home victory and extended its streak of SCAC home victories to 40.
Centre scored the game's first points on Maggie Prewitt's three-pointer, but DePauw would not trail after scoring the next seven.
DePauw scored 11 straight in a 3:37 stretch of the first half to take a 24-10 lead and still held a 30-20 advantage at the break.
The Colonels closed that lead to six with a 6-2 stretch early in the second half, but the Tigers scored the next seven at the start of an 11-1 run which pushed the lead to 16. Centre got no closer than 14 the rest of the way.
Cassie Pruzin (pictured) led DePauw with 12 points followed by Katie Mathews and Emily Marshall with 11 apiece. Katie Aldrich matched a career-high with eight rebound, while Andrea Travelstead also hauled down eight as DePauw held a 39-28 edge on the glass. Pruzin led DePauw with five assists. Lauren Huter paced Centre with 15 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
The Tigers shot 41.7 percent from the field, whle Centre hit 37.0 percent and only 30.8 percent in the first half. DePauw also held a 16-3 edge in second-chance points after grabbing 13 offensive rebounds.
DePauw returns to action on Friday, January 9, when it hosts Birmingham-Southern at 8 p.m.
