Newspaper Article on Cable TV Quotes Prof. Jeff McCall '76
January 12, 2009
January 12, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Indiana's telecommunications law "was designed to get local governments out of the business of doing franchise agreements with cable and broadband providers," Jeffrey M. McCall, professor of communication at DePauw University, tells the Lafayette Journal & Courier. He adds, "The state would have authority over all new cable agreements and over providers who opted out of prior agreements. The state would not have franchise authority over operators who opted to stick with previous, local agreements."
Dr. McCall is quoted in a story published today which examines cable TV service. It can be accessed at the newspaper's Web site.
Jeff McCall is a 1976 graduate of DePauw and author of the book Viewer Discretion Advised: Taking Control of Mass Media Influences. He has been cited in articles published by more than 80 newspapers.
The professor offered his thoughts on mid-season replacement shows and the state of television networks in an article published in the January 2 Christian Science Monitor.
