January 21, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Pete Eshelman, a 1996 graduate of DePauw University, has joined the Roanoke Regional Partnership as director of outdoor branding. Eshelman will be responsible for building awareness of the Roanoke region's many outdoor recreation amenities and leveraging those assets to grow the regional economy.
"The Roanoke Regional Partnership is finding innovative ways to develop the region's assets and generate investment in our regional economy," said Beth Doughty, the Partnership's executive director. "Building a strong reputation as a region rich in natural beauty and opportunities to experience the outdoors will help attract people, jobs and capital."
A sociology major at DePauw, Eshelman previously served as director of operations at Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing and has worked in outdoor recreation in the region since 1997. He has been an instructor or leader in rock climbing, white water kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking and caving.
The Roanoke Regional Partnership was founded in 1983 as a regional marketing organization for the greater Roanoke area that includes Alleghany, Botetourt, Franklin, and Roanoke counties plus the cities of Covington, Roanoke, and Salem and the town of Vinton. Since its inception, the Partnership has been involved in business locations and expansions that have created more than 13,600 jobs and $1.3 billion in investment in real estate and equipment.
