February 16, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Real estate agents "have statutory duties of fair dealing and disclosure under Indiana law," Andy Buroker, a partner with Krieg DeVault and 1984 graduate of DePauw University, tells the Indianapolis Star. "They are licensed just like any doctor or attorney and have very clear duties to their clients, including confidentiality."
The newspaper's story begins, "Whether you're buying or selling a property, understanding the roles of listing and buying agents could help you avoid financial loss or potential legal action if the deal goes south. First-time buyers, especially, shouldknow that agents representing either the buyer or seller are bound by rules to assure fair dealing on both ends of the home-buying transaction," writes Tony Miller.
