Havercamp_Jordan_2008fb.jpgMarch 18, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — "Park Tudor high school’s first-year golf coach Jordan Havercamp, 21, is believed to be one of the youngest varsity coaches in Indiana history, but don’t expect the pressure to get to him," writes the Indianapolis Star's Nat Newell. "The former Panther football, soccer and golf star established himself as the kicker on DePauw University’s football team by making a 47-yard field goal with 2.4 seconds remaining to win the Monon Bell game over an undefeated Wabash team in 2007. Havercamp is a junior at DePauw but able to take over the Park Tudor golf program while on a semester-long internship with the West Point Financial Group in Indianapolis."

Havercamp -- who served as captain of the high school's golf team as a senior -- tells the newspaper, "For now, it’s probably a one-year thing since I’ll be on campus as a Monon Winner BG 2007.jpgsenior but it’s a great opportunity. I always thought whenever I had kids, I’d coach my son’s or daughter’s teams, but I never thought I’d have a chance to (coach) so soon. How many (college students) can say they coached a high school team? It’s a neat experience."

Brad Lennon, athletic director at Park Tudor, says of Havercamp, "He’s mature for his age, he’s been through tryouts and understands what’s required at a match, so I felt comfortable (with the hire). And it’s nice to have former athletes (return) to the program." (at right: "The Kick")

Of his players, Havercamp states, "We’re separated enough by age and (the college) experience and I have the ability to take charge and coach them the way they need to be coached. It’s also good because I’m at an age they can relate to. Some of them already have their own instructors so (my role) is to give them advice on how to score and the mental aspect (of the game). The cool thing is (the players) are all nice and level-headed. Hopefully we’ll represent Park Tudor well and I’m glad to work with them."
