200 Free Relay Qualifies for Tonight's Championship Finals; Cook Advances in 200 Free

ncaamswimmers.jpgMarch 19, 2009, Minneapolis, Minn. —  DePauw's 200-yard freestyle relay of John Cook, John Montgomery, Josh Baugh and Steve Klabak broke their own school record and finished eighth in 1:22.22 in the prelims of this morning's NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.

With the finish, the relay advanced to tonight's championship finals at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The time was .04 seconds better than their qualifying time of 1:22.26 set at the Purdue last chance meet. The Tigers entered the Championships seeded 11th in the event.

Cook and Montgomery each competed in the 200 free with Cook qualifying for tonight's consolation finals with a ninth-place finish in the prelims in 1:39.58. That was just .1 seconds from the final spot in the championship finals. Montgomery was 36th in 1:42.56.

Charlie Boehme also competed in the 400 individual medley and finished 34th in 4:14.83.
