Enjoy An Evening of Chamber Music, 'Bach and Family,' April 15
April 11, 2009
April 11, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — On Wednesday, April 15, the DePauw Chamber Singers and Vox Musae Chamber Ensembles will celebrate the successful musical dynasty of the Bach family in a 7:30 p.m. concert. The program, which is presented free of charge and is open to all, can be heard in Thompson Recital Hall of the Judson and Joyce Green Center for the Performing Arts.
Titled "Bach and Family," the concert will feature works by three members of the Bach lineage: Johann Michael Bach, Johann Christoph Bach, and Johann Sebastian Bach. Assisting the Chamber Singers will be DePauw Sinfonia, an instrumental ensemble consisting of strings, oboe, bassoon and organ.
"For seven generations from 1550 to 1780, the name of 'Bach' dominated the musical life of Central Germany, with most of the official musical positions being occupied by a direct relative of J.S. Bach at one time or another," explains choral director Gabriel Crouch. "This concert presents some of Bach's glorious choral music alongside contributions by two of his uncles, Johann Christoph and Johann Michael. We're so pleased to have some of America's most prominent baroque instrumentalists to join us for this concert alongside three of our instrumental faculty, in what I hope will be a hugely uplifting evening of baroque choral/orchestral music."
