Alice Ripley '85 and Next to Normal Cast Have Fans Atwitter
July 12, 2009
July 12, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — "What does the small and slightly obscure Broadway musical Next to Normal have over Paris Hilton and MTV?," asks the Wall Street Journal's Ellen Gamerman. "Twitter fans, for one thing. The show’s online feed reached more than 355,000 followers Wednesday afternoon. That’s about 45,000 more than Ms. Hilton’s, and 121,000 more than MTV's."
The article notes that Alice Ripley, who recently won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical and is a member of DePauw University's Class of 1985, was asked by a fan on Twitter, "Alice, how do you perform with such conviction every night without it getting old for you?" Her response: "How can living in the present get old?"
Gamerman notes that the cast of Next to Normal even held a "Twitter Performance" in the spring to appease its online community of fans.
