Newspaper Features 'Piano Man' Stan Baker '44
July 16, 2009
July 16, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — "Stan Baker, who celebrates his 88th birthday later this month, is still tickling the ivories at senior facilities in Oceana and Mason counties," begins a story in Michigan's Ludington Daily News. "It has been an avocation for him since he was in college at DePauw in Indiana, where he majored in education but took quite a few music classes. He lives in Pentwater where he is a substitute organist at Centenary Methodist Church."
Baker, a 1944 graduate of DePauw University, is a retired teacher. He "plays at a lot of sing-alongs at the Oceana Senior Center in Hart and at the Friendship Center in Pentwater," writes Diane Nemitz. "He says he plays '88 (piano) keys at age 88.'"
The article notes that Baker's wife, Miriam Loague Baker '43, also turns 88 this month.
