July 17, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Jeffrey C. Bird, a 1981 graduate of DePauw University, has been named vice president/chief medical officer of Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. Dr. Bird comes to his new post from BMH Family Medicine Residency, where he has been associate directtor and also served as a member of the hospital's board of directors and chair of its medical staff.
"I accepted this position because of the challenge and my love for Ball Memorial Hospital," Bird says. "My goal is to improve on the high quality we already provide and make us the preeminent healthcare provider in East Central Indiana in terms of quality and safety."
According to Inside Indiana Business, "As chief medical officer, Bird will be responsible for the quality management and physician support areas of the hospital. He will also work on enhancing physician relations, while remaining on the staff at the residency program and maintaining a limited medical practice."
"One of the attributes you notice right away about Jeff Bird is his desire to make Muncie and Ball Memorial Hospital better," says the hospital's president and CEO, Mike Haley. "He's dedicated his life to this area. He was born here; completed his first two years of medical school here; practiced here and helped build the largest residency program in the state, outside of Indianapolis, right here. I think he'll do an excellent job helping us to achieve our goals."
After graduating from DePauw, where he majored in zoology, Bird went on to the Indiana University School of Medicine and and completed his residency at Ball Memorial.
"I want people to understand just how good our hospital is," he declares. "There are things we can improve on, but we've got a great community here, and we're all working to make it even better."
