Smith is working on "Identifying the Common Structural Elements in Apolipoproteins Responsible for ABCA1-Specific Cholesterol Efflux and HDL Formation."

Fewer than 50 fellowships are awarded annually by the AHA to deserving researchers to support their research activities in their respective programs/universities.heart association logo.gif

"Your research award was made possible by the dedicated work of people of all ages and backgrounds who volunteer their time and talents to fight heart disease through advocacy efforts and fundraising activities," notes the AHA's Great Rivers Affiliate Research Programs. "Supporting research is our #1 organizational priority. Without men and women with strong research backgrounds in key leadership postions, our ability to support the most meritorious research could be compromised and that would be tragic."
