Tigers Tough Out 29-27 Old Gold Day Triumph Over Millsaps

87DSC_5396RF-c.JPGOctober 3, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw University's football team gave Old Gold Weekend celebrants much to cheer about this afternoon, knocking off Millsaps College -- the preseason pick to win the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference -- 29-27 at Blackstock Stadium this afternoon. A defensive stop of a Millsaps two-point conversion attempt late in the fourth quarter ensured the victory.

The win boosts the Tigers' record to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the SCAC. Millsaps falls to 3-2 and 2-1.

Senior quarterback Spud Dick was back behind center after missing last week's game and connected on 28-of-34 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns. Two of the scoring strikes were to junior wide receiver Alex Koors, who caught 8 passes for84DSC_5359RF_c.JPG 212 yards on the afternoon. Bryan Mulligan hauled in 7 passes for 60 yards. DePauw had 466 yards of total offense.

The Tiger defense held the Majors to just 20 yards rushing.Millsaps has been SCAC champions or co-champions each of the last three years.

Next up for DePauw is a trip to Rhodes for another SCAC game next Saturday afternoon.
