New Composition by Dorn Younger '64 to Premiere October 24

October 17, 2009

Dorn Younger.jpgOctober 17, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — A new composition by 1964 DePauw University graduate Dorn Younger, Lincoln: A Symphonic Tribute, will be premiered at an October 24 concert in Cuyhoga Falls, Ohio. The new work will be part of a program commemorating the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. More than 300 performers will take part in the concert, which is being presented by the Summit Choral Society.

Frank Jacobs, a 1966 DePauw graduate and founder of the Choral Society, commissioned Younger to create Lincoln: A Symphonic Tribute. As DePauw students, the two men were founding members of The Men of Note, and reconnected nearly forty years later at the group's 2004 Old Gold Weekend reunion concert. Following another Men of Note reunion last year, Jacobs commissioned Younger to write the new Lincoln tribute.

Lincoln_tophat_logo.jpg"With the creation and presentation of a world premiere of this scope, a significant number of people were involved, from artistic to business," says Dr. Jacobs. "Arrangements began nearly two years ago to pursue this symphonic commission work as a culminating feature of Lincoln’s 200th birthday year and the Summit Choral Society’s 20th season. We are proud to present this thrilling performance."

The Saturday, October 24 concert will take place in the Cuyahoga Falls High School auditorium, 2300 4th Street.
