Prof. Tom Chiarella to Present at This Week's Sanibel Island Writers Conference

Tom Chiarella Star 2008-2.jpgNovember 3, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Tom Chiarella, visiting professor of creative writing at DePauw University and fiction editor for Esquire magazine, will be among the presenters at this week's Sanibel Island Writers Conference. Hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University, the event will take place November 5-8 at BIG ARTS (The Barrier Island Group for the Arts) on Sanibel Island.

Other presenters will include Julianna Baggott, Ishmael Beah, Dan Bern, Christine Buckley, John Dufresne, William Giraldi, Abby Sher, Jay Wexler and Liza Wieland. Three-time Pulitzer Prize nominee Carl Hiaasen will keynote the conference.

Tom Chiarella was part of a team that earned a 2009 national award from The American Society of Magazine Editors. He is the author of three books -- Foley's Luck, Writing Dialogue and Thursday's Game: Notes from a Golfer with Far to Go.

Last month, the professor appeared on New York City National Public Radio affiliate WNYC to discuss his Esquire article on "perfect compliments."
