December 10, 2009
December 10, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Spud Dick, the senior quarterback who led DePauw University to its first-ever football playoff appearance this year, leads the D3football.com 2009 All-South Region team with his selection today as the "South Region Offensive Player of the Year." The honor comes on the same day that Dick was announced as one of four national finalists for the Gagliardi Trophy, the most prestigious individual honor in NCAA Division III football.
"Dick, a senior from Indianapolis, threw for 2,785 yards and 27 touchdowns over nine games in leading DePauw to the NCAA playoffs for the first time in the program's history," notes D3Football.com's announcement. "He completed 71.3 percent of his passes."
Junior wide receiver Alex Koors (pictured at right) joined Dick as a first-team region selection. Senior guard David Joeckel was a third-team choice on offense.
The teams, chosen in balloting by South Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were selected from 205 nominations by Division III member schools. A total of 78 players were chosen.
