Dick Named Regional Offensive Player of the Year; Tigers Place Three on All-Region Team

dick_spud_action_2009monon.jpgDecember 11, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Senior quarterback Spud Dick, one of four finalists for the Gagliardi Trophy, has been named the D3football.com South Region Offensive Player of the Year.

Junior wide receiver Alex Koors joined Dick on the region's first team and offensive guard David Joeckel earned a spot on the third team. A link to the complete team is available here.

The DePauw and Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference single-season record holder with a .713 completion percentage this year, Dick totaled 2,785 passing yards with 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for a school-record 156.26 efficiency rating.

Dick (left) ranks sixth in NCAA Division III completions per game and 12th in both passing efficiency and passing yards per game (308.0). He set a new school record with seven games of 300 or more passing yards. Dick also was a first team all-SCAC selection and broke every DePauw career passing mark in addition to finishing his career as the SCAC's all-time leader in passing yardage (9,312).

Koors_Alex_2007FB_Action_vsWabash.jpgKoors (right), a third team all-region choice last year, caught 73 passes this season for a school-record 1,266 yards. His 13 touchdown receptions were the second most in a DePauw season. Koors ranks third in Division III with 126.6 receiving yards per game and 22nd with 7.3 catches per contest this season. He totaled at least 100 receiving yards in seven games this season and topped the 200-yard plateau twice. Koors caught 11 or more passes in three games.

Joeckel, a third-year starter on the offensive line, earned the third team distinction while starting at right guard. He anchored an offensive line which allowed just six sacks this season which ranks 10th in Division III. The Tigers' offense ranks 23rd in Division III with 429.9 yards per game, while the passing attack was eighth with 320.5 yards per outing. Joeckel earned first team all-SCAC honors this season as well.

The Tigers finished the season with a 7-3 record and won the program's third SCAC title. The Tigers also earned the first NCAA appearance in program history.
