DePauw is New "Hot" College, According to New York Times

October 31, 1988

new york times.gifOctober 31, 1988, Greencastle, Ind. — "Goodbye Harvard. A new 'hot' college looms this year," writes Bernard Weinraub in today's New York Times. "Its illustrious alumni include John Jakes, the author of best sellers; Vernon Jordan, a civil rights leader; Joseph P. Allen, an astronaut; Mark Hampton, an interior designer, and Lee Hamilton, a Democratic Representative. And J. Danforth Quayle, class of 1969. If you have not guessed the name of the school, it is DePauw University."

Presidential candidate George H.W. Bush's selection of Quayle as his running mate has people talking about DePauw, the Times notes. "Our admissions director just returned from some trips out of state -- Oklahoma, Connecticut, Nebraska and Alabama -- and the increased awareness of the university knows no bounds," director of media relations Larry Anderson tells the newspaper.

The article notes that "Mr. Quayle's passion for golf at DePauw is the subject of an article in the November issue of Manhattan Inc. magazine."
