Women Win Amy Hasbrook Tournament; Men Runners-Up at Defiance

Fernandez_Jenna_200809wbb.jpgDecember 31, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — "The Saint Mary's basketball team fell 90-60 to host DePauw University in the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament Championship game Wednesday," reports this morning's South Bend Tribune. "The host Tigers extended their home-court winning streak to 42 straight at Neal Fieldhouse and 59 consecutive regular season wins at home overall."

The summary adds, "After the fifth tie of the game with the score knotted 24-24, DePauw went on a 16-3 run over a 6:23 span in the first half to take control of the game, 40-27."

Jenna Fernandez (pictured at top) earned tournament Most Valuable Player honors after scoring 12 points, grabbing six rebounds and recording four steals in the title contest.

Meanwhile, in Ohio, the men's basketball team lost to host Defiance 89-75 in the championship game of the Purple and Gold Financial Tournament. DePauw dropped to 8-3 with the loss, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 9-2. Drew Wills led the Tigers with 13 points.
