Bruce Nelson '88 Helps Create "Independent Learners"

Bruce Nelson, a fourth grade teacher at Indian Creek Elementary School in Indianapolis' Lawrence Township. "An added bonus is no day is the same."

Nelson, a 1988 graduate of DePauw University, is featured in the Indianapolis Star's "Meet the Teacher" column. An educator for 21 years, he says, "I want my students to be independent learners."

At home, "Parents need to model a love of learning," Nelson says. "Children should see their parents reading, taking classes and tackling questions they have. We never stop learning.
