DePauw Improves to 9-4 with Win over Sewanee

January 8, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw scored the first 11 points of its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game against Sewanee and never trailed on the way to a 77-54 victory. The host Tigers improved to 9-4 overall and 2-2 in the SCAC, while Sewanee dropped to 3-9 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
The Tigers jumped out to an 11-0 lead, but Sewanee put together a 12-1 run of its own to tie the game at 12-12 midway through the first half. DePauw scored the next six and stretched the halftime lead to 37-20.
That margin reached as many as 26 midway through the second half and Sewanee got no closer than 20 the rest of the way.
Steve Lemasters led the Tigers with 17 points, while Tom Callen matched a season high with 14. David Gray paced DePauw with 11 rebounds as the Tigers held a 38-26 edge on the boards. Tony James dished out a career-best nine assists in the win.
Garrett Hollingsworth led Sewanee with 18 points followed by Andrew Little with 13. Tyler Brown hauled down six rebounds and Tony Marelle dished out five assists.
The Tigers shot a season-best 53.6 percent from the floor and held Sewanee to 43.2 percent.
DePauw hosts Oglethorpe on Sunday at 2 p.m., while Sewanee travels to Centre for a 3 p.m. contest.
