February 8, 2010
February 8, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — "DePauw University and the City of Greencastle have made great strides in becoming more sustainable," writes Shannen Hayes in the Banner-Graphic. Her story notes, "On Wednesday and Thursday, DePauw will be hosting its third annual Focus the Nation event. This year's theme is 'Green Jobs - Green Economy.' The two-day event will center on a green economy -- what it is and how to get there."
"Everyone is welcome," according to Melissa D. "Missy" Orr, a 2009 graduate of DePauw University, who is a fifth-year sustainability intern and a member of Greencastle Sustainability Commission. "People can pick and choose a session or attend all of it."
The story includes a listing of events. Read more at the newspaper's Web site.
DePauw's course offerings in environmental studies
will be enhanced as a result of a three-year $595,000 grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, which was announced in December 2009.
On September 15, 2008, DePauw President Brian W. Casey signed the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment, joining what is now 663 college and university presidents and chancellors across America who are pledging to neutralize the greenhouse gas emissions of their institutions and make environmental awareness a key component of campus life.
