Poet Aracelis Girmay Coming for April 7 Reading

March 25, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — Author and poet Aracelis Girmay will come to the campus of DePauw University on Wednesday, April 7, to present a free reading. The public is invited to attend the event, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Richard E. Peeler Art Center. The program is presented by DePauw's James and Marilou Kelly Writers Series.
Girmay is the author of a children's book, Changing, Changing: Story and Collages, and Teeth, a collection of poems, which won the 2009 GLCA (Great Lakes College Association) New Writers Award . Her poems have also been published in Ploughshares, Bellevue Literary Review, Indiana Review, and MiPOesias, among other journals.
She was born in Santa Ana, California, and was raised in Southern California. Of Eritrean, Puerto Rican, and African-American descent, Girmay holds a B.A. from Connecticut College and an M.F.A. in poetry from New York University.
