#25 DePauw Sweep Manchester; Extends Win Streak to Eight

April 8, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — The 25th-ranked Tigers improved to 20-3 and extended their win streak to eight with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Manchester. DePauw won the opener, 7-0, and took the nightcap by a 13-5 score. Manchester dropped to 11-10-1 with the losses.
In the first game, Megan Soultz recorded her 43rd career shutout and limited the Spartans to just three singles while striking out 11.
Emma Minx reached on an error in the second and later scored on Amy Hallett's double, while Hallett crossed the play on Alison Towery's single. In the fourth, Jen Kosinski led off with a single, moved to second on a passed ball and to third on Minx's sacrifice bunt. Holly Paris drove in Kosinski with a single to right.
The Tigers added four in the sixth as Rachel MacBeth led off with a single. Kosinski reached base on a sacrifice bunt and MacBeth went to third on a throwing error on the play. Minx lifted a sacrifice fly to right which plated MacBeth. Hallett singled to right and scored Kosinski before Haley Buchanan hit a double to left center which brought home Hallett. Buchanan came home on Towery's single.
DePauw totaled eight hits with Hallett and Towery each collecting two. Jade Kennedy had two of Manchester's three hits. Soultz improved to 14-2 with the win, while Kristi Brown dropped to 7-3. All seven of the runs Brown allowed were unearned.
In the nightcap, Manchester took a 2-0 lead in the second on Danielle Howell's two-run double down the left field line. DePauw cut the lead in half with a solo homer to right center in the bottom of the inning.
The Tigers scored six runs on eight hits in the third and followed it up with five runs on six hits in the fourth to take a 12-2 lead. Manchester plated three in the fifth as Amy Hommema hit a two-run homer and Howell drove in Rosemary Bond with a single.
DePauw ended the game due to the 8-run rule when it scored one in the bottom of the sixth. Jamie Story reached on an error, moved to second on MacBeth's sacrifice bunt and scored on Kosinski's two-out, single up the middle.
All nine DePauw batters collected at least one hit as the Tigers totaled 19. Kosinski led with four, while MacBeth and Hallett followed with three each. Buchanan, Ashlee Anton and Story each had two. Manchester totaled 10 hits paced by three from Howell and two each by Hommema and Bond.
Kristin Barrow improved to 4-1 with the win as she pitched two innings of scoreless relief. Erica Bush dropped to 4-6 with the loss.
DePauw returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday when it hosts Birmingham-Southern in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.Back
