Late Little Giant Rally Sends DePauw to Defeat

April 14, 2010, Crawfordsville, Ind. — DePauw scored five in the top to the fourth to take a 7-4 lead, but host Wabash scored one each in the fourth and eighth and two in the ninth for an 8-7 win over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 19-14, while Wabash improved to 16-15.
Jason Cohen's RBI single in the first scored Taylor Hoffman and gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead, while Alex Jacques made it 2-0 with a single in the second which plated Drew Holy. Wabash took a 3-2 lead in the third with three unearned runs.
DePauw started a two-out rally in the fourth as Holy walked and scored on Sam Linette's double. Jacques followed with a run-scoring double before Ben Gardner walked. Hoffman followed with a two-run double and scored when Rob McPike singled to give the Tigers a 7-4 lead.
Wabash's P.J. Tyson singled to lead off the fourth and later scored when John Pennington hit into a double play. The Little Giants closed the gap to 7-5 in the eighth when Tyson led off the inning by being hit by a pitch. He moved to third on Brian Lares' single and came home on Pennington's base hit to right.
David Seibel led off the Wabash ninth with a single and moved to second on Joe Johnson's sacrifice bunt. Tyson followed with single which scored Seibel and he advanced to second on the play. Lares then delivered the game-winning double down the right field line.
Cohen and Jacques each had three of DePauw's 10 hits, while Hoffman and Jacques each drove in a pair. Wabash totaled 13 hits paced by Lares and Seibel with three each and two from Pennington, Tanner Coggins and Tyson.
Luke Zinsmaster improved to 2-2 after pitching a scoreless ninth, while T.J. Witham dropped to 3-2.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday with a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Centre.Back
