#14 DePauw Blanks Illinois Wesleyan, 8-0; Second Game Called Off

May 3, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — The 14th-ranked Tigers improved to 34-5 following an 8-0 win over visiting Illinois Wesleyan in the first game of a doubleheader. The second game was called due to lightning in the top of the second. The Titans dropped to 26-13 with the loss.
DePauw scored two in the third as Emma Minx drove in Cymone Allen with a bases loaded single and Holly Paris plated Rachel MacBeth after reaching base on a fielder's choice.
The Tigers then scored six in the sixth to end the game. Amy Hallett started the inning by reaching on a walk before Haley Buchanan was hit by a pitch and Sam Szyska entered as a pinch-runner. Allen's bunt single loaded the bases and MacBeth made it 3-0 with a single up the middle.
Brianne Weeks walked to score Szyska and Minx made it 5-0 with a single through the left side which scored Allen. Paris walked which allowed MacBeth to score before Ashlee Anton and Amy Hallett each followed with RBI singles.
MacBeth, Minx, Hallett and Allen each had two of DePauw's 11 hits, while three different Titans had one hit apiece.
Megan Soultz improved to 23-4 with the three-hit shutout, while Christy Engel dropped to 9-8. The shutout was Soultz's 47th for her career which ranks fourth in Division III history. The senior also ranks second in Division III history in starts (138), tied for fourth in complete games (108), fifth in wins (107) and appearances (141) and tied for fifth in innings (836.0).
The Tigers wrap up the regular season on Saturday when they travel to ninth-ranked Washington-St. Louis.
