Trine Advances in Loser's Bracket; Thomas More Eliminated

May 14, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — Fifth-seeded Trine advanced in the loser's bracket of the Greencastle, Indiana, Regional of the NCAA Divison III Softball Championship with a 5-2 win over Thomas More in an elimination game.
The Thunder, which improved to 27-14, will play on Saturday at Noon against the loser of the Transylvania-DePauw game. The Saints finished the season at 22-20.
Trine took a 1-0 lead in the third when Alishia Raak led off with a bunt single. Nicole Grimm entered as a pinch-runner and moved to second on Sarah Belote's sacrifice bunt and to third on Sara Hivley's ground out. Tori Bluhm then delivered a run-scoring single.
The Saints took a 2-1 lead in the fourth as Dana Bors singled and Brittany Wegman walked. Lisa Wiesman's single loaded the bases before Ashley Lloyd and Alexa Thompson drew walks.
Andi Gasco led off the Trine fourth with a homer to right center to tie the score at 2-2. Cassie Byrd then walked and pinch-runner Kelly Tresick moved to second on Lindsay Wise's sacrifice bunt. Rachel Wisman drove in Tresick with a single and Tori Bluhm later added an RBI single.
The Thunder scored their final run in the fifth when Byrd walked, Wise reached on an error and Wisman followed with a single. Raak scored when Byrd reached on a fielder's choice.
Three different Thomas More players had one hit each, while Bluhm, Wisman and Raak each had two of Trine's nine hits. Gasco improved to 14-7, while Dana Bors dropped to 14-10.
