Tigers Top SCAC Preseason Football Poll
August 18, 2010
August 18, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — "For the first time since joining the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in 1998, defending league champion DePauw University was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the SCAC football championship," notes an announcement from the conference today. "DePauw garnered four of seven possible first-place votes and tallied 44 total points to headline the poll. The Tigers shared the SCAC title with Millsaps last year but earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Playoffs via their win over the Majors."
DePauw received 44 votes from SCAC coaches, including four first-place tallies. Centre is second in the poll with 41 votes, two for first place.
The Tigers, who are ranked #25 in the preseason USA Today Sports Weekly poll, finished the 2009 campaign with a 7-3 overall record, 5-1 in the SCAC. They lost to Thomas More, 49-39, in the DePauw football program's first-ever playoff game.
Coach Robby Long is welcoming back 19 returning starters this fall (8 on offense, 10 defensive players, and one specialist). DePauw opens its 2010 campaign on September 11 at home versus Rose-Hulman.
