August 19, 2010
August 19, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — "Bill Clinton's power-broker pal Vernon Jordan celebrated his 75th birthday Monday night with a private party at the Chilmark Tavern," reports the Boston Globe. Jordan, a 1957 graduate of DePauw University, is senior counsel at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP and senior managing director of Lazard LLC. He is the former president of the National Urban League.
The column by Mark Shanahan and Meredith Goldstein notes, "Among the guests were Charles Hotel boss Dick Friedman, Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, Attorney General Eric Holder, Jordan's 12 grandchildren, and about 100 other friends and family ... Clinton, who frequently goes golfing with Jordan on the island, couldn't make it. The former president was in Florida campaigning for Senate candidate Kendrick Meek."
