DePauw Finishes Fifth in Volleyball Invitational; Top-ranked Washington Wins Title

September 18, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. —  DePauw is 7-7 on the season after finishing fifth at its own invitational. Top-ranked Washington-St. Louis won the tournament with a 3-0 win over 13th-ranked Carthage. Complete results are available from the official site.

DePauw finished pool play with a 1-2 record after losing to 13th-ranked Carthage by a 3-2 score (17-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-9, 15-10). In the fifth-place match the Tigers defeated  Haverford 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 25-18, 25-22).

In the Carthage match, the Tigers won the opening two sets, but the Lady Reds won the last three for the win. Abby Balbach totaled 13 kills, while Ali Smith led with 44 assists. Kylee Lehrman had four service aces and 18 digs, while Paige Thompson led the way with two blocks.

Annie Collier led the Tigers with 14 kills in the win over Haverford, while Smith had 37 assists and Lehrman totaled two aces. Madison Hoenig recorded 15 digs and Thompson finished with eight blocks.

DePauw's Madison Hoenig was one of eight players named to the all-tournament team.

The Tigers open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, September 25 when they face Trinity and Colorado College in matches at Sewanee.
