25 Student Vocalists Take Awards at State Competition

87335November 2, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — Twenty-five DePauw University student vocalists won awards, with nine taking first place honors, at the Indiana State National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) auditions, which took place Saturday at Anderson University. Over 340 singers competed at the event.  Other schools taking part in the competition included Indiana University, Butler University, Ball State University, Anderson University, Indiana State University, to name a few, as well as students from private voice studios.

The following are the DePauw winners, with their voice professor noted in parenthesis:

  • Category 2a:  First Year College Women; 1st Place – Stephanie Sharlow (student of Valentin Lanzrein) 
  • Category 2b:  First Year College Women; 3rd Place – Annelise Delcambre (student of Jay White) 
  • Category 2d:  First Year College Women; 1st Place – Elleka Okerstrom (student of Caroline Smith), 2nd Place – Lisa Maurer (student of Caroline Smith), 3rd Place – Emily Barnash (student of Pamela Coburn) 
  • Category 4a:  Second Year College Women; 1st Place – Emily Smith (student of Caroline Smith), 2nd Place – Sarah Leeper (student of Jay White), 3rd Place – Elisa Sunshine (student of Jay White) 
  • Category 4c:  Second Year College Women; 1st Place – Claire Wilkinson (student of Pamela Coburn) 
  • Category 5a:  Second Year College Men; 2nd Place (tie) – Ryan DeBoer (student of Caroline B. Smith) and Alexander Muetzel (student of Caroline B. Smith) 
  • Category 5b:  Second Year College Men; 2nd Place – Erik Erlandson (student of Caroline Smith) 
  • Category 8a:  Third Year College Women; 1st Place – Sara Horton (student of Caroline Smith)

  • Category 10b:  Fourth Year College Women; 1st Place – Andrea Spencer (student of Pamela Coburn), 2nd Place – Briana Jewell (student of Pamela Coburn) 
  • Category 11a:  Fourth Year College Men; 2nd Place – Case Nafziger (student of Caroline Smith) 
  • Category B:  Musical Theatre – 1st and 2nd Year College Women and Men; 1st Place – Therese Boyich (student of Jay White), 2nd Place – Gwendolen Eberts (student of Barbara Paré), 3rd Place – Alexandra Warfield (student of Barbara Paré) 
  • Category C:  Musical Theatre – 3rd and 4th Year College Women and Men; 3rd Place – Kacey Hermening (student of Valentin Lanzrein)
