Daniel Reck '03 Talks with Illinois Newspaper About Upcoming Concert
November 14, 2010
November 14, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — "We try to be educational in our program," says Daniel Reck, a member of Shadows of Bronze, which "brings together handbells, piano and wind instruments to create a unique sound of music," according to the Daily Review Atlas of Monmouth, Illinois. Reck, a 2003 graduate of DePauw University, and Michael Surratt, will perform together November 19, a concert which is previewed in the newspaper.
"Lots of people have seen handbell ensembles, but we try to teach about how the instrument actually works, the history of the music and literature and show off techniques used to play handbells by yourself," Reck tells the newspaper.
The program will include a range of music, including Swing
Low, Sweet Chariot, The Who's Pinball Wizard, and a Reck composition, A Hope.
"It's a completely secular piece but one that looks through different kinds of personal journeys that people go through in their lives," Reck tells the newspaper. Proceeds from the concert will benefit charities.
