Hot Shooting Spurs DePauw to Win over Trine

December 11, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw shot 62 percent from the floor including 68 percent in the first half on the way to a 91-74 win over visiting Trine. The Tigers improved to 6-2, while the Thunder dropped to 7-2 and saw their seven-game win streak come to an end.
The Tigers hit their first five field goal tries of the contest and jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the opening four minutes. The stretched it to as many as 18 at 37-19 before heading to the intermission with a 42-30 lead.
DePauw kept the margin in double digits until Trine score six straight to close the Tigers' lead to 58-49 with 12:34 remaining. The Thunder got as close as five at 66-61 with eight minutes remaining, but a 10-0 run starting with Ryan Sever's three-point play and ending with Ross Simpson's layup gave DePauw a 76-61 advantage with 5:38 left.
The Tigers stretched the lead to as much as 20 points late in the half as Trine got no closer than 15.
Sean Haseley led four DePauw double-figure scorers with 21, while Joe Bergfeld added 15 and hit 7-of-8 field goals. Drew Wills and Ryan Sever each scored 14 in the win.
Ian Jackson paced Trine with 20 followed by Alex Croll with 14 and Scott Rogers with 10.
The Tigers shot 61.8 percent from the floor, while Trine connected on 60.4 percent. DePauw knocked down 12-of-24 threes to the Thunder's 5-of-11.
DePauw maintained a 21-19 edge on the boards with Wills, Ryan Russell and Bergfeld each grabbing four. Rogers and Tim Pearcy each had four boards for Trine. Michael Wilkison led the Tigers with five assists and Ty Graham also had five for the Thunder.
DePauw travels to Rose-Hulman on Saturday, December 18, for a 4 p.m. contest.
