Alice Ripley '85 Preps New Album, Daily Practice, Volume 1
December 17, 2010
December 17, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — Alice Ripley, Tony Award-winning actress and singer and member of DePauw University's Class of 1985, will release a new album of acoustic rock songs, Daily Practice, Volume 1, on February 15, 2011. The disc "will feature songs by Carly Simon,
Bruce Springsteen, Carole King and Sting," reports Playbill. "The project takes its title from Ripley's daily music work and
her recent New York concerts inspired by songs that speak to her
personally."
According to Ripley,
"When
I pick up my guitar to play, I do it because it re-acquaints me with
the pulsating, ever-changing drive that rules my body. To make music
on my own and to practice it every day is the foundation of my creative
life. This time around I am focusing on a selection of songs written
by heroes I have yet to meet. The songs here are examples of excellent
songwriting. I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all of these
writers for keeping me alive and giving me a reason to practice."
The article notes, "Ripley is currently on tour with the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Next to Normal, for which the actress earned a Tony Award for her portrayal of a mother holding onto her family as she copes with depression and bipolar disorder. She received her first Tony nomination for playing conjoined twin Violet Hilton in the 1996 musical Side Show. Ripley has also appeared in the Broadway production's of Sunset Boulevard, James Joyce's The Dead, The Who's Tommy, The Rocky Horror Show, King David and Les Miserables."
